From Planinska jama to the magical Rašica
The always surprising magnificent water cave

February 27, 2025, 22 pictures

Most images are approximately 768 x 1024 pixels in size, numbers in front of the picture descriptions are serial numbers of the original photo files. People in the photos (in addition to the author): Matic Di Batista - Diba, Kristofer Pečar - Bajsi, Rafko Urankar - Cile and Matic Špetič - Čekič. The text also mentions Jože Stražišar, Rado Radešček and Renato Verbovšek - Rene. Names of caves and cave parts were sometimes given by the author.
The purpose of the excursion was to test the new five little floodlights in the large spaces of Planinska jama, as well as checking the performance of the new underwater flashlight.

Planinska jama

54990. Three "subtenants" on a hornbeam trunk at the pavilion in front of the cave: fern, ivy and lichen

54992. Snowdrops, Galanthus nivalis ...

54991. ... on the meadow in front of the bridge over Unica river

54993. Rock outcrops on the other side of the river ...

54994. ... and at the top of the canyon wall. Jože recognized in the latter the image of the head of
Erasmus of Predjama, in knightly armor, with a lowered visor.

54996. View from the path to the entrance to Erazmova jama (Jama 2 pri Planinski jami) on the other side of the Unica, right in front of the entrance to Planinska jama

54997. After the last rains, a small landslide occurred in front of the entrance to the cave and narrowed the path with the fallen guardrail. With the rucksack it was necessary to proceed in a four-legged style.

55017. Rapids on Unica below the dam at the entrance

54998. Entrance to the cave from the inside, from the path

55001. View towards the cave entrance from the bridge over Unica

55002. The staircase leading from the path towards Confluence (Sotočje) to Silent Cave (Tiha jama)

55006. Stream of tributary from Tiha jama towards Unica, next to the stairs

55005. View from the entrance to Tiha jama back towards Unica

55008. Rapids on Unica downstream from Sotočje; the author is standing on the path, just before the tunnel.

55010. Attachment of the tripod to the path railing in the previous photo

55011. 9 lamps illuminated the photo 55008. Two, with a narrow beam, illuminated the rapids. The image shows one of them being attached to the railing.

55012. The dark triangle at the right edge of the image was illuminated by this headlamp, hanging from the railing on a string.

55013. Still life above Sotočje. The author's new headlamp, which has five light intensities, stopped working. He thought that the third level was turned on all the time, at which the light works for 10 hours (double-clicking the switch), but he was wrong. The light really shone brilliantly, he had never seen such a beautifully illuminated cave before, because it was actually at the fourth level of intensity, and it only lasts for three hours. He had to replace it with the old headlamp. It is always on the second intensity level (click, click), which works for 10 hours. Photographing the Rak river waterfall was cancelled due to the smallest possible team.

55015. The eastern bank of Unica a little further from the Confluence in the Pivka branch, where the continuation of the Silent Cave joins the tunnel above the chimney in the middle of the picture.

Planinsko polje

55018. Evening sky over Malni (The Mills), on the far right is part of Planina.

General Assembly of the DZRJL, Luize Pesjakove 11, Ljubljana

55019. Annual meeting of the members of the society in its premises was encouraging and cordial, but it was not entirely carefree. In the photo: the president, Bajsi and also the knee and fist of Cile.

55020. Čekič, one of the heroes of the historical breakthrough in the Peskovnik cave above the village of Vesca near Rašica. Enthusiastic and tireless diggers, true successors of cavers such as Rado and
Rene, approached the magical three-digit (in meters) depth, magical for the outskirts of Ljubljana.
Renato's most popular tool, besides the "third member of the team", of course, was the čekič. He called it bajla (pron. bayla) and he could dig with it for hours and hours, even hanging down in a narrow passage, such as at the bottom of Jama na meji.
