Lake Cerknica

54677. View of the snowy lake surface, already quite empty, from the Cvinger viewpoint

Velika Karlovica

54678. View from the entrance along the stream bed towards the southeast, towards Javorniki mountain chain

54679. The round opening at the bottom of the dam in the entrance was half submerged (40 cm), the stream in the cave was still quite wide and deep. The main purpose of the excursion was to photograph the ice stalagmites, it had been cold for several nights, with temperatures around -7⁰C. But in Velika Karlovica, apart from a few small icicles and icy strips on the walls where the water was seeping, there was no ice. So the author decided to try his luck in Mala Karlovica. In the picture: a view across the stream bed, in front of Velika Karlovica, across the snowy lake towards Cerknica and Mount Slivnica.

Mala Karlovica

54680. View south, towards Javorniki, across the meadow between Velika and Mala Karlovica

54682. View out of the already dry entrance to Mala Karlovica, with ...

54683. ... a few icicles

54687. View along the low entrance hall towards the entrance

54689. The water has deposited driftwood at the end of the hall, almost to the half of its height.

54685. A wider view of the end of the hall. Behind the author, a much narrower tunnel continues westward.

54691. Soon water can also be seen, in puddles that can be bypassed or crossed. An even narrower and probably shorter tunnel branches off to the north, the depth of the water exceeds the height of the boots. The author failed to place himself properly in the picture, so for size, a beech ball with a diameter of 40 mm is used again, positioned slightly to the left and below center, on top of a stone.

54692. The continuation was getting lower and muddy, so the author decided to follow the main tunnel, which branches off to the left from the entrance hall, towards the north. In the picture: a view back along the tunnel, a little further from the entrance hall.

54694. The tunnel ahead was no longer dry, there was this little lake, which could easily be crossed over the stones.

54696. The remains of a small side tunnel, which the stream at high water level partly erased. What remained was this column, here in a very contrasting photo, ...

54697. ... and here also slightly illuminated from the front, with light reflected from the ceiling. For size, there is again a beech ball, supported by a snail shell.
