22286. A special treat for the connoisseur is the Shkodër open market between the streets Rruga Djepaxhijej and Rruga Evliju Celebiu (after the famous Turkish traveler Evliya Çelebi), only a short walking distance from the city centre, the Democracy Square (Sheshi Demokracia). In the picture part of the market, it would be called green market (zelena pijaca) in Serbia, with vegetables, is depicted, along the Rruga Djepaxhijej. It is generally possible to pay with euros but the visitor soon finds out that there is a different exchange rate for coins (100 leks per euro) and for banknotes (140 leks per euro). Vegetables are abundant, prices leave little to be desired and the quality of the produce is way above anything available in the european supermarkets, more in line with bio- and eco- vegetables. As elsewhere foreign languages are seldom spoken, but here and there Italian and even Serbian can be of great help.
